New Mexico 2022

In the fall of 2019 I entered New Mexico. I planned to winter in a warmer climate and return in April 2020. The pandemic had other plans for me. I was determined to return and finally came back in April of 2022.

Heading west from Florida I found some nice spots along the way.
White Sands National Park, the world’s largest gypsum dunefield. It is enormous. Star Wars was filmed here!
Camping under the cliffs at Oliver Lee State Park.
Beauty at a different time of day.
Springtime in the desert.
Organ Mountains – Desert Peaks.
The Wicked Witch says that the City of Oz is on this side, I enjoyed the hike non-the-less.
Hiking in a canyon, checking out the real estate.
Due to drought, there were many wildfires. I had to change my plans to avoid them.
Cerro Pedernal. Because I had to avoid a wildfire, I made camp at Lake Abiquiu. What a thrill to see Georgia O’Keefe’s mountain! I remember a trip to France and having a similar thrill when I happened upon Paul Cezanne’s Mont Sainte-Victoire in Aix.
Painting by Georgia O’Keeffe from the museum in Santa Fe. She painted this mountain many times.
I usually end with a nice sunset, but the views need not be wide.
